Tradition – The Dusty Word That Still Breathes

When you’re young and hungry for identity, tradition sounds like the opposite of freedom. Teenagers don’t want to inherit—they want to invent. They prefer the thrill of progress to the weight of heritage. The rebellion bubbling at the surface of youth has little patience for grandma’s doilies of wisdom.

But what does this dust-covered word actually mean?

The word tradition is ancient—so old, in fact, that Latin was still alive and kicking when it was born. The root 'tradere' means “to hand over” or “to pass along.” In other words, to transmit cultural practices, stories, celebrations, and values to the next generation.

Sounds noble enough, doesn’t it?
